Oakley’s Rolling O-Lab at EUROBIKE tradeshow
Friedrichshafen 29. Oct. – 1. Sept. 2012: Once again, for the 20th time, the EUROBIKE opened its doors in Friedrichshafen, Germany. And once again it blew all expectations out of the water: No less than 40.000 professionals from 100 countries attended, and an additional 20.000 consumers joined in on public day on Saturday.
People from the industry and bike scene were impressed, their enthusiastic feedback ranged from “"You could think that the bicycle was invented at Lake Constance and was throwing itself a party every year here!” to "The mood was powerful, just full of energy” and “very strong on the international side”.
With Oakley’s strong heritage and its roots in the mountain bike and cycling world we were of course present with our huge O Lab. The O Lab was parked right inside the tradeshows central courtyard, with impressive displays of our current focus products Radarlock™ and the latest MX Goggles. A specific pedestal for Bradley Wiggins – 2012 London gold medallist and the first person to ever win the Tour de France and Olympic gold in the same year – highlighted Wiggins’ special OCP Radarlock™.
Professional and consumers alike were curious to visit our Oakley science and test displays inside the lab, and to participate in our Oakley Time Trial Challenge. In the Time Trial Challenge participants raced special edition Oakley-Condor bikes over a 500m sprint, with times recorded on a leader board. Individuals were able to set a new time records and friends were able to race against each other. They could even compete against times that were set by no other than Victoria Pendleton, Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins! Among the 242 participants we recorded the fastest times of 20.15 sec (men) and 24.33 sec (women) over the 500m-sprint race!
But the main focus was of course the Celebration of the Olympic Games 2012. The Oakley team, comprised of 700 athletes from 205 nations, won no less than 107 medals: 38 gold, 42 silver and 27 bronze. – more than the most successful nation. And so we proudly displayed our athletes’ success!
To top off the Olympic celebration, Oakley athlete Nino Schurter, Olympic silver medallist 2012, and Flo Vogel (21 medals in European and/or world championships) gave signing sessions on Wednesday, and on Friday we welcomed Jaroslav Kulhavv, Mountainbike Olympic gold medallist at the London Games 2012.
Once again the EUROBIKE offered a uniquely natural and energetic tradeshow environment, with many product world premieres, many professional visitors, true bike enthusiasts and a beautiful, entertaining time!
We’ll be back!
