SLC Punking: Shaun White Rocks Skateboard Vert Final at Dew Tour-Salt Lake, Lutzka and Sheckler Podium in Skateboard Park
The guy just is just a flat out winner…in any sport he’s in.
Oakley’s famously competitive Shaun White continued his Dew Tour hot streak this past week by emerging victorious in the Salt Lake City Skateboard Vert Finals, taking down friendly rival and Dew Tour Vert leader Pierre-Luc Gagnon (PLG).
Shaun threw down his trademark “armadillo,” a heelflip 540 body varial that he debuted at X Games 16; back-to-back fakie fives; a heelflip 720; and topped it all off with an attempt at a backside 900 just for kicks after he sealed the win.
With media reports pointing to the possibility that PLG may have played the contest safe and ensured that he simply made the podium (he’s the current Dew Tour overall standings leader in Vert) without going full force for the victory, Shaun wasn’t phased as he kept his focus and savored the win. Even with the regular added pressure of, well, being Shaun White.
“To be honest, I put the same amount of pressure on myself,” he said. “No matter what it is, I always want to win. The extra pressure is just there no matter what.”
There’s a good amount of momentum for Shaun as he prepares for the coming Vegas stop. Keep an eye out.
Skateboard Park: Greg Lutzka Takes Second, Ryan Sheckler Grabs Third
Oakley’s own Greg Lutzka lead the pack going into the Jam Session at the Skateboard Park Finals, but he was ever-so-narrowly edged out by youngster Chaz Ortiz by a mere half point. Even with the runner-up finish in SLC, Greg continues to lead the overall standings for the Dew Cup, despite the charge by Chaz.
O’s Ryan Sheckler – always a crowd favorite – took third place with a score of 84.5 (Ortiz scored 89.25, Lutzka scored 88.9).
Congratulations to our Skate Team stars for representing in SLC!
Now check out a couple sick videos on Lutzka (Behind the Scenes) and Oakley’s legendary Bob Burnquist as he “crossed over” into sky diving before a recent contest.
