Stage 11: O Star Cyclist Sprints to Third Tour de France Stage Victory, Team Riders Hold Three of Top Five

Oakley’s renowned sprinter is establishing his dominance this Tour in…well, sprinting.

HTC-Highroad Star Mark Cavendish blazed to the 18th Tour de France stage victory of his career and the third of the 2011 race. The feat also powered him up to the lead of the points competition, slipping into the Green Jersey for his amazing performances thus far.

The O Team speed demon was the fastest in stage eleven from Blaye-les-Mines to Lavaur, out-sprinting André Greipel and Tyler Farrar to tally his seventh victory of the 2011 season.

With 28 Grand Tour stage wins on his career highlight list, Mark was visibly stoked to have earned back the Green.

“It’s incredible to have the green jersey, it’s the most beautiful jersey in the world,” he said, rocking his Oakley performance eyewear. “I have to thank my teammates for the work they did today, even the guys who are in the top ten overall gave it one hundred percent and that shows what a great team we are. There are two more bunch sprints in this year’s race, one in Montpellier and the other in Paris and I want to try to win both of them. It’s not easy fighting for the green jersey but I’m going to keep going and try to keep hold of it right through to the end.”

But the triumph held a little more sentimental significance for Mark. As part of the Oakley family, he dedicated his win to the son of Oakley’s Cycling Manager – who was diagnosed with Leukemia one year ago to the day. Many of O’s Cyclists at the Tour are sporting stickers on their bikes or helmets that read ‘I Ride For the Kids.’

He Tweeted his thoughts:
“I dedicated the win today to a proper tough little man. 1year today since Tyler Blick was diagnosed with leukemia.”

All in all, another solid day for Oakley Cycling – as Team Stars Cadel Evans (3rd), Andy Schleck (4th) and Frank Schleck (5th) continue to hold their spots at the top of the overall rankings (General Classification)!
